Our Bible Study

Our Bible study is held in a relaxed, friendly and informal setting around café tables, where we magnify the word of God rightly divided as instructed by the Apostle Paul.

Taught by Pastor Edward R. Cross. Read his articles on the Pastor’s Desk ›

“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” (Psalm 138:2 KJV)

What to Expect

We are a small group, so you won’t find all the programs many have come to expect from churches. Our focus is not on building a church that fills your days with church-centered activities, but on teaching grace living in the life you already have, so you can be an ambassador for Christ to the world. We are not a place to hide from the world, but a place to be equipped to live for Christ in it.

Visitors Welcome

Whether you are new to the Bible, visiting from another church, or simply curious about grace, you are welcome here. You won’t be singled out, but you will be warmly welcomed, and you are free to simply sit and listen. Dress is casual but respectful.

The Morning

We begin by sharing prayer requests, then sing hymns, many from the Grace Ambassadors Hymnal, chosen because they teach Pauline doctrine. An hour-long Bible study follows, taught with PowerPoint. The morning lasts about 1½ hours.

Questions Welcome

After class is dismissed, many stay for questions and conversation, and you are welcome to join them. If a question needs more than a quick answer, it may be considered for part of a future lesson.

Your Bible

We use the King James Bible, and copies of Paul’s Epistles are at every table. You are welcome to use a Bible app on your phone, but please silence all phones.

Parking and Entrance

Parking is on the street. Please use the front door on Union Street; there are stairs up to the entrance. Restrooms are in the basement.

Coffee, Tea and Water

Coffee, water and a variety of teas are available at the back of the auditorium.

Children

Children are welcome to sit with their parents in the auditorium. For babies and toddlers, a room at the back is set up as a nursery, with a window and a speaker so parents can still see and hear the lesson. The nursery is not staffed, so little ones stay with a parent.

Giving

An offering box is at the back of the auditorium for those who wish to give. You can also give online in the Support the Ministry section below.

Who We Are

The Word of Truth Bible Church is a small fellowship of individual believers in Christ who have banded together to promote "the gospel of the grace of God" and the word of God, rightly divided (Acts 20:24; 2 Timothy 2:15). Our purposes are to win the lost to Christ, and to edify, unify, and equip individual believers in the way of the Lord more perfectly according to the revelation of the mystery given to the Apostle Paul for the body of Christ.

We teach that Christians are to "hold the traditions" which were taught by Paul to the body of Christ. We believe the entire Bible is for us, but not necessarily to us and that rightly dividing the word of truth as commanded by the Lord through Paul, the Apostle of the Gentiles, is the only way to avoid misapplying Biblical truths that are not present truths to the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul tells us that the things written before are for the Christians to learn to have hope through the patience and comfort of the scriptures.

We also find that historical traditions contained in the writings and teachings of men are a poor substitute for Biblical truth and often result in the spoiling of the believer by either bringing them into captivity or destroying them.

This website only contains a snapshot of our beliefs, but we hope that it gives you an idea regarding the truths that we believe.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I be saved?

By believing the gospel: that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Salvation is the gift of God, by grace through faith, not of works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Read the Gospel of Grace

What does “rightly dividing” mean?

Paul told Timothy to study, “rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). The whole Bible is for us, but not all of it is written to us: Paul’s epistles give the gospel, walk and ministry of the church today, while much of the rest was addressed to Israel.

Which Scripture applies to you, and how

What does “dispensational” mean?

A dispensation is a stewardship: an arrangement in which God makes known how He is dealing with man at that time, and what He requires of him. Paul calls ours “the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward” (Ephesians 3:2). Dispensational Bible study asks which dispensation a passage belongs to, so that what God told Israel under the law is not confused with what He has given the Body of Christ under grace.

Present truth and dispensational truth

What does “Mid-Acts” mean?

It means the Body of Christ began with the ministry of the Apostle Paul, after his conversion in Acts 9, not at Pentecost in Acts 2. Pentecost fulfilled what the prophets had promised Israel; the Body of Christ belongs to the mystery revealed to Paul.

When the church began

Do you practice water baptism?

No. Paul says Christ sent him “not to baptize, but to preach the gospel” (1 Corinthians 1:17). The “one baptism” of Ephesians 4:5 is the Spirit placing a believer into the Body of Christ the moment he believes.

Why water baptism is not for today

What about the Lord’s Supper?

We hold it to be a memorial for the Body of Christ, which Paul received from the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:23-26): a remembrance of Christ’s finished work, not a sacrament, a means of grace, or a test of worthiness.

The Lord’s Supper, rightly divided

Why the King James Bible?

We believe the King James Bible is God’s preserved word in English and our final authority: preserved, not re-inspired. Copies of Paul’s epistles are at every table on Sunday.

Why we hold the King James

Are you part of a denomination?

No. Word of Truth Bible Church is an independent local church, governed by its pastor and responsible only to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Read our Statement of Faith

Can a believer lose his salvation?

No. The believer is “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13) “unto the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). Salvation rests on Christ’s finished work, not on our performance, so it cannot be lost.

Once saved, always saved

Must I repent of my sins to be saved?

Paul preached “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21): a change of mind from unbelief to trusting the gospel. Turning from sin is the fruit of salvation, taught by grace (Titus 2:11-12), not a condition for it.

Repentance, rightly divided

Are tongues and healing for today?

No. Signs confirmed the word to Israel, “For the Jews require a sign” (1 Corinthians 1:22), during the kingdom offer and the Acts period. Paul wrote that tongues “shall cease” (1 Corinthians 13:8); today “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Tongues, signs and healing

Do you keep the Sabbath?

No. The Sabbath was the sign of God’s covenant with Israel (Exodus 31:13). Paul tells the Body of Christ, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days” (Colossians 2:16).

No Christian Sabbath

Do you teach tithing?

No. The tithe belonged to Israel under the Law. Paul teaches grace giving instead: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Tithing and grace giving

What about Jesus’ words in the Gospels?

Every word is true and profitable, but in His earthly ministry Christ was “a minister of the circumcision” (Romans 15:8), sent to Israel. Our instructions come from the risen Christ through Paul, “the apostle of the Gentiles” (Romans 11:13).

But Jesus said…

Is the church the bride of Christ?

No. Paul calls the church “the body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27), never the bride. The bride, “the Lamb’s wife,” is the holy Jerusalem (Revelation 21:9-10), bound up with Israel’s promises.

The Lamb’s wife

When is the rapture?

The catching away of the Body of Christ is a mystery revealed to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). It is our “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), and it comes before the tribulation, for “God hath not appointed us to wrath” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).

Grace Giving

The Apostle Paul teaches that giving under grace is voluntary, cheerful, and motivated by love—not obligation. He encourages believers to give as they purpose in their hearts, not grudgingly or by necessity (2 Cor. 9:7). Paul highlights the generosity of the Macedonians, who gave willingly despite poverty (2 Cor. 8:1–5), and presents Christ’s sacrifice as the ultimate model of giving (2 Cor. 8:9). He never commands tithing but promotes freewill, grace-based giving as a spiritual investment (2 Cor. 9:6). For Paul, giving expresses gratitude, supports ministry, and glorifies God through sincere, Spirit-led generosity.

Grace Greater Than Our Sin

The Christian life has plenty of ups and downs — disappointments, heartbreaks, and failures. Yet one thing never changes: the abiding presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Romans 8, Paul gives us hope even after the struggles of Romans 7:

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…" (Romans 8:29 KJV)

We all fail, but the Lord never abandons us. David proved that — a man after God’s own heart despite his many failures. Because of God’s sure mercies in Christ, we can keep on keeping on.

Even when we believe not, "yet he abideth faithful" (2 Timothy 2:13). God works all things together for good (Romans 8:28). He is never surprised.

The journey continues — grounded in the faithfulness of Christ.
